The Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act. Effective June 27th, 2023, the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) requires all DEA-registered practitioners to complete a one-time, 8-hour training requirement on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

Q: Who accredits your trainings?

A: Most of Grayken TTA’s trainings offer free CME and Nursing credits. Please check the accreditation for each training by reviewing the individual training’s accreditation information section, listed on the training's webpage.

CME: Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine approves our programs for CME accreditation and are authorized to do so as a jointly accredited prover by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
Nursing: Boston Medical Center approves our programs for Nursing continuing education credits (including pharmacology) and are authorized to do so by the American Nurses Association Massachusetts, and accredited provider by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Q: Who does the DEA MATE-Act apply to?

A: All DEA-registered practitioners, with the exception of practitioners that are solely veterinarians.

Q: Who has to take the 8-hour training requirement?

A: While you should stay current on best evidence-based practices, this is a one-time requirement of all DEA-registered practitioners, with the exception of practitioners that are solely veterinarians.

Starting June 27th, 2023, practitioners who are new DEA registrants or are renewing their registration must fill out their DEA registration form. On this form, you will attest to completing the full 8 hours of DEA-required trainings.

Q: I've taken 8 hours of trainings fulfilling the DEA requirement, do I have to take 8 more hours since this requirement takes effect June 27th, 2023?

A: No. Those 8 hours can still count towards your fulfillment of the DEA requirement.

Q: How to become a DEA-registered practitioner?
